Ceramic has a quietness to it. Bedrooms and hallways, mostly. A pair either side of the bed gives readable light without the glare of a ceiling fitting, and a single sconce in a narrow hall warms the passage as you move through it. If you want a cooler metal note on the wall instead, brass wall lights carry more shine, while glass wall lights let the light through for a lighter feel. Ceramic sits between the two, matter of fact and unfussy.

How to choose a ceramic wall light

Check the bulb fitting first (E27 or B22), then whether it plugs in or wires into the wall, which may want an electrician. Look at how far the shade projects against the space you have, since a deeper dome can crowd a tight landing. Pair it with a warm white bulb (2700K) for that soft, settled light, and pick a dimmable fitting if you can.
